Affordable luxury for the wrist with Italian flair
Mondia was founded in 1935 in the small Swiss town of Le Locle by watchmaker and entrepreneur Paul Vermot. Vermot’s extremely precise timepieces quickly brought the young watchmaker fame, a steadily growing customer base, and financial success. Through the continuous development of the model range and the use of high-quality materials, Mondia developed into a constant on the European watch market – especially in Italy and Spain. Watch lovers appreciate the creative collections on the one hand, and the attractive price-performance ratio on the other.
Like many traditional watch manufacturers, the so-called quartz crisis in the 1970s and 80s puts Mondia in an economic tailspin, as cheap quartz watches from the Far East flood the European market. After several changes of ownership – including to Swiss watchmaker Movado–Zenith, and later to a consortium of Swiss businessmen associated with North American machine tool manufacturer Dixi – the brand briefly disappeared from the market before being given a new lease of life at the start of the new millennium by Italian watchmaker and licensee Sordi.
Mondia is passionate about creating affordable, quality timepieces.
Mondia
New home in Italy
Sordi, pioneer of Italian wristwatch manufacturing, is founded in the 1960s by Luigi Sordi and has its historic headquarters in Lombardy, the beating heart of “Made in Italy” watchmaking. Today, the Italian watchmaker is responsible for the development, manufacturing and distribution of all Mondia brand timepieces – including, of course, high-end pilot watches – and cooperates with “Swiss made” production centers in Switzerland as well as with “entry level” producers in the Far East.
