For this purpose, a “counter” is integrated into the source code of the respective online text as part of the METIS access count. This counter is a unique ID assigned to the respective text and means that when a text marked in this way is visited, access to this text can be counted. In addition, a client ID is created as part of the METIS access count and a so-called “METIS session cookie” is set for the user of the marked text. This client ID and the session cookie can be used to recognize whether or not the text has already been accessed by this user within a browser session. This is intended to prevent unlawful multiple counting of this text when determining its copy probability. No personal data is processed either by the session cookie or at any other time during the METIS access count.
