A German lifestyle watch brand with Italian design

If you first think of Detomaso as “something with a car”, you are not wrong, because De Tomaso – here written in two words – is actually an Italian car brand, which was founded in 1959 by Alejandro De Tomaso in Modena. Nevertheless, there is at least an indirect connection between the car manufacturer De Tomaso and the watch manufacturer Detomaso: Both brands are inspired by Italian flair and lifestyle.

Despite its southern sound, Detomaso is a watch brand from Germany. Its history is closely linked to the personal story of its founder, Richard Colman. In the early 1990s, Colman makes a momentous decision: The IT entrepreneur buys a 1970s convertible and puts his home business on hold for a while. He embarks on an extended road trip across Italy. Colman gets off the hamster wheel, drives around in his car and is thrilled by the many impressions and the newfound freedom. In his mind, he begins to imagine how he can visibly express this newfound freedom and sense of time in a wristwatch – and founds the Detomaso brand in 1993.

A journey gives new impetus

Many years and hundreds of thousands of watches sold later, traveling again in Italy, Richard Colman meets Mark Steinberg in a small mountain village in Umbria. Once again, fate is kind to him. Steinberg, a young manager – his life situation reminds Colman of his own, many years before – is enthusiastic about Detomaso.

Steinberg joins Colman in the watch manufacture. Both want to give new impulses to their watch brand and develop it steadily from now on. And so Detomaso shifts up at least one gear: The assortment is enlarged, new colors, styles and designs freshen up the collections, the first limited editions complete the portfolio. Today, the name Detomaso stands for elegant and high-quality timepieces – including pilot watches, of course – in a trend-oriented design, for good quality as well as for an attractive price-performance ratio.

German precision and Italian passion

The interaction of courageous idea creators, ambitious designers and first-class watchmakers have turned the idea behind Detomaso into precision work. In addition, the watch manufacturer uses only high-quality components such as traditional Japanese movements, sapphire crystal and surgical steel. In this way, the German brand with the Italian flair guarantees long-lasting enjoyment of its timepieces.
