G-Shock

A watch synonymous with true independence and transcending boundaries

G-Shock is a brand of the Japanese electronics company Casio, founded in 1946 and headquartered in Tokyo’s Shibuya district. Casio itself is particularly known for its digital watches and calculators produced from the 1970s onwards. Today, however, the Japanese group’s product range includes far more technical devices than is generally known – from musical instruments to school and graphic calculators to medical products. Born out of the dream of creating a watch that would never break, Casio has now been manufacturing extremely durable G-Shock brand timepieces since the mid-1980s.

The story of G-Shock begins in 1983, when Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe wins the battle against the laws of nature. Years earlier, a damaged pocket watch given to him by his father breaks his heart. Kikuo Ibe’s dream: a watch that is virtually indestructible. It should be waterproof up to a pressure of 10 bar, have a battery life of at least 10 years and, above all, survive a fall from a height of at least 10 meters without damage. In other words, the longed-for timepiece is supposed to do nothing less than finally destroy the reputation of a watch as a fragile piece of jewelry.

The name says it all

Kikuo Ibe sets to work constructing a watch that can withstand the most extreme centrifugal and shock forces, as well as very high water pressure. The engineer and his team spent around two years developing, building and testing one prototype after another. Finally, he says, they’ve done it. They found the perfect structure for an absolutely shock-resistant timepiece. It is the birth of G-Shock.

Since then, the brand name has been synonymous with true independence and transcending boundaries in the world of watches. To this day, G-Shock continues to evolve ceaselessly in every aspect – from the structure of the timepieces to the materials used and the functions offered. The goal is to always become even better, even more user-friendly, even more durable. And further, to be the most robust watch ever.
