From a childhood dream to a watch brand without compromise

The idea for VIIS began with a childhood dream. Founder Josip Kožul was fascinated by flying at an early age – a passion that never quite let go of him. When health reasons made his own pilot training impossible, a new approach was born: his fascination for technology, aviation and changing perspectives was to be reflected in a product that would last – in the form of a pilot’s watch.

Together with his partner Leonie, who shares his enthusiasm for design, functionality and independence, he founded the VIIS brand in 2024. The first models appear a year later. The aim is to create timepieces that are convincing in terms of both design and technology – with a clear design language, well thought-out details and a claim that goes beyond fashion trends.

From vision to timepiece – crafted with conviction

The designs are created in Graz, a UNESCO City of Design since 2011. Josip and Leonie develop all models there themselves – with an eye for proportions, reduction and legibility, inspired by historical pilot’s watches but clearly anchored in the present. The watches are then produced in Pforzheim – a city with a long watchmaking tradition. Each model is handcrafted, from the technical design and assembly to the final quality control. The claim: care in every step, without compromising on materials or workmanship.

Although development and manufacturing take place in Germany – hence the promise of “Made in Germany” – VIIS deliberately relies on an international supply chain. For example, it uses automatic movements from the 9 series by Miyota from Japan – known for their reliability – and leather straps from Italy. The origin of the components is transparent, and the selection is deliberate. The result is a product that combines technical expertise with design clarity.

Design with attitude – timepieces with soul

VIIS is not just about function or precision – it is also about attitude. A watch should not just show what time it is. It also stands for decisions, orientation and the conscious use of time. In this sense, every VIIS is more than just an object of daily use – it carries an attitude: independent, minimalist, uncompromising in its demands and details.

In terms of form, the models are based on classic cockpit instruments – no frills, reduced to the essentials. At the same time, they have a modern design language: clear dials, harmonious proportions, technically sophisticated constructions. Each watch is created over a period of months – from the first stroke to the finished product. Nothing is arbitrary – everything has a function.

By the way, the name VIIS is a nod to the Croatian island of Vis – and thus to Croatia, the homeland of the Kožul family. This connection to origin and history flows directly into the brand identity. At VIIS, remembrance and new beginnings are not contradictory, but complement each other.
