Daniel Craig’s passion for beautiful timepieces

How great was the outcry among many critics when Daniel Craig was presented to the international public in 2005 as the new and now sixth James Bond. Craig then followed the smart and charming Pierce Brosnan, who successfully played Her Majesty’s famous secret agent from 1994 to 2005. Today, five 007 episodes later, hardly any other actor embodies the fictional character of the shaken rather than stirred MI6 agent, penned by British author Ian Flemming, in a more modern and fitting way than Daniel Craig. With his brilliant performances in Casino Royal in 2006, Quantum of Solace in 2008, Skyfall in 2012, Spectre in 2015, and finally No Time to Die in 2021, Craig is likely to be remembered even by the initially most skeptical as arguably the best double-0 agent to date.

The man behind Agent 007

Daniel Craig is undoubtedly one of the best-known and most successful actors of the present day. His striking on-screen presence, versatility and talent have made him an international icon. Although he gained fame primarily for his role as James Bond, Craig has earned an outstanding reputation as an actor far beyond the confines of this unique character. Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2, 1968 in Chester, England. He grew up in an artistic family – his father was a pub owner, his mother an art teacher. Craig showed an early interest in acting and appeared in various plays during his school years. After graduating from drama school, he begins his career in British television, where he gains his first experience in series such as Our Friends in the North and Sharpe’s Eagle.

I have no interest at all in competing with others – the only person I want to outdo every day is myself.

A new Bond era

Craig’s breakthrough came in 2006, when he first stepped into the legendary role of secret agent James Bond in the remake of the classic Casino Royale, portraying him with unprecedented intensity, raw energy and emotional depth. His Bond is now vulnerable, more human than in past episodes, and yet highly competent – an interpretation that casts the figure of the seemingly invulnerable double-0 agent in a whole new light.

Not just Her Majesty’s secret agent

Although Daniel Craig is best known for his role as James Bond, he has played an impressive range of characters in a variety of genres. With dramatic films like Munich in 2005 to comedies like Logan Lucky in 2017, he’s proven his ability to immerse himself in a wide variety of characters. The British 007 star with the American passport is also a successful producer and also repeatedly shows his versatility to enthusiastic audiences on the theater stage. Away from his acting career, Craig is particularly interested in soccer, traditional Hollywood cinema of the 1970s, music and – how could it be otherwise – beautiful watches.

Alongside other well-known watch lovers such as Nicole Kidman, Cindy Crawford and George Clooney, the ex-Bond with the steel-blue eyes is one of the hottest friends and brand ambassadors of the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Omega. The watchmaker was founded in 1848 by watchmaker and entrepreneur Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Over the course of its history, Omega has become known in particular as a watch supplier to NASA and as the official timekeeper at the Olympic Games. Today, Omega is the largest subsidiary of the globally active Swiss Swatch Group.

Daniel Craig’s unique style is also reflected in the aesthetics of the watches he presents for Omega. From the legendary Seamaster, which James Bond has been wearing since the mid-1990s, to the Speedmaster, especially prized by pilots, and the exclusive Constellation collection, each timepiece highlights the actor’s discerning taste and carefully curated personality. Incidentally, like his film counterpart James Bond, Daniel Craig usually wears a Seamaster sports and diving watch on his wrist, yet he was also repeatedly spotted wearing an Omega Speedmaster pilot’s watch on set during the filming of his latest agent thriller No Time to Die, as well as the latest Moonswatch at a New York film gala.
